Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is handing an increasing share of his industrial empire's day-to-day leadership to his three daughters, Halima, Fatima and Mariya, as part of a succession plan built around pushing the conglomerate's value toward $100 billion over the next several years, according to a report by Bloomberg. Halima has taken charge of the family office and the group's international offices, Fatima now leads the oil and gas business built around the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals complex, and Mariya oversees cement and food operations, the businesses that first built her father's fortune.

The handover comes as Dangote weighs a landmark public listing of the refinery and petrochemicals unit, a move that would rank among the largest share sales in African corporate history and give outside investors a direct stake in a business long run as a private, family-controlled operation. Positioning his daughters atop cement, oil refining and the family's investment arm gives each a distinct base of operational experience ahead of any listing, and signals that Dangote intends the next phase of the group's growth, and its eventual leadership, to stay inside the family even as it opens up to public capital markets.
