The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice has launched an Electronic Case Management System aimed at modernizing how cases move through the regional court, according to a report by Guardian Nigeria. The secure, web-based platform digitizes case handling from initial filing through to final disposition, introducing electronic filing, digital document management, real-time case tracking, automated registry workflows and virtual hearings in place of the court's largely paper-based processes.

Built to operate in English, French and Portuguese to match the court's three working languages, the system is intended to cut administrative delays, reduce unnecessary bureaucratic steps and improve transparency and accountability in how the court handles its docket. The court says it expects at least 80 percent of registered legal practitioners to be using the platform within six months, with all new cases required to be filed electronically going forward.

The rollout is the first major step in a broader digital transformation plan the court intends to complete by 2030, when it aims to operate as a fully digital judicial institution with complete electronic case archives and significantly shorter processing times. Court officials say the system should also make the court more accessible to litigants across the region, regardless of how far they are from Abuja, where the court sits.
