Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa held closed-door talks with global investor Prateek Suri on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai, in discussions officials say centered on technology, infrastructure and longer-term economic reform, according to a report by Guardian Nigeria. The meeting, held at a private residence with a limited delegation, included Zimbabwe's minister responsible for information and communication technology, a sign of how much weight the government is placing on digital infrastructure in its outreach to investors.

The discussions explored potential investment across several sectors, including digital infrastructure, mining and logistics, alongside a proposal to establish a government-backed startup innovation hub inside Zimbabwe focused on nurturing ICT ventures. Suri, who leads Maser Group and MDR Investments and is widely described as Africa's youngest billionaire, has positioned himself in recent years as an active investor across multiple African markets.

The engagement adds to a pattern of outreach between Zimbabwe's leadership and Suri's businesses; Zimbabwe's First Lady had separately discussed potential investment opportunities in education, sports and mining with Suri on the sidelines of a different Dubai summit earlier in the year. Whether the latest talks translate into firm commitments, particularly around the proposed innovation hub, remains to be seen.
