Sudan's army says it repelled a coordinated attack by the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North in the eastern Blue Nile region, inflicting what it described as heavy losses on the attacking coalition, according to a report by Guardian Nigeria. The army's 4th Infantry Division command said its troops and allied forces thwarted an attempt to breach their positions in the Kurmuk locality, destroying several vehicles belonging to the attacking forces in the process.

Military-aligned accounts circulated footage on social media showing destroyed and seized RSF vehicles following the clash, part of a broader campaign the army says has halted the coalition's advances in the area. Blue Nile has been the site of sustained fighting since the start of 2026, with the RSF-SPLM-N alliance having previously seized the towns of Kurmuk and Geissan along the Ethiopian border, together with several strategic military bases in the region.

The latest engagement adds to a string of clashes the army has reported repelling in Blue Nile in recent weeks, as both sides contest territory along the border corridor. Independent verification of casualty figures from either side remains difficult given restricted access to the conflict zone.
