SwiftVEE, a livestock and game-trading platform launched in 2019, has grown into Africa's largest marketplace of its kind, now handling more than $100 million in annual market activity across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia, according to a report by Forbes Africa. The platform has grown between 50 and 100 percent year-on-year since launch, and a Series A funding round in December brought in $10.1 million, with early angel investors reportedly seeing 25-times returns on their initial stakes.

Founder Russel Luck, a tech lawyer who previously ran SwiftTechLaw, said he effectively staked his legal career on a bet few people in agriculture believed was realistic. "I live in the future," he said, describing how he moved into agriculture after a national drought exposed deep inefficiencies in how livestock were sold, with isolated, geographically limited auctions leaving sellers undervalued simply because too few buyers could physically attend any given sale.

SwiftVEE's solution streams live video from auctions online, letting buyers bid regionally rather than only in person, which the company says has expanded seller exposure and improved cash flow across the ecosystem it serves. The platform has set, broken or rebroken more than 60 African livestock-sale records, including a Boran bull that sold for a record R8 million, around $486,000, in 2024. A partnership with Nedbank has since layered insurance and financing products on top of the trading platform, turning what started as a simple online auction tool into a broader financial infrastructure play for Southern Africa's livestock sector.
